Baagasvard Church, Copenhagen by Jorn Utzon

This is a Masterclass in designing with light! Each space draws you through the building, guided by the light, until you arrive at the heart of the church.

It’s an absolute WOW of a building from the moment I walked in through the unassuming entrance. Even on an overcast day, it’s so beautiful. Every aspect is considered: materiality, acoustics, detailing, light, space, form and the journey. I was captivated.

If you ever get the opportunity to visit Copenhagen, put this on your ‘must see’ list. It’s just stunning, with so many threshold moments.

I particularly love the attention to detail:

The board announcing the hymns.
The dark metal handrail against the white wall.
The wooden bench sitting below the high vaulted ceilings.
The service of the day collection pot with coin slot at the top and padlock underneath.
Even the toilet is beautiful!
