I can now see why people have been raving about Bruges. It’s quite beautiful. I was only there for a few hours in the afternoon but it is now firmly on my ‘must visit again’ list.
I spent quite a while sitting by this canal and reflecting on how this place has intersecting thresholds… the meeting of the natural and man-made, the connecting of one piece of land to the other as we transition over the bridge – momentarily hovering in the in-between, the open door which enticises us in with a glimpse of a hidden courtyard behind, where we are rewarded for our efforts and our curiosity by the autumn sunshine as it illuminates the canopy of the trees, darkening the trunks which cast long shadows on the grass.
It’s such a magical part of the city. Especially with the sounds of water, the birdlife on the green and the horses hooves echoing off the cobbled streets.
This is another particularly delightful threshold in Bruges. This archway leads to De Halve Maan brewery and beer garden!
